A small selection of stoneware pieces, all wheel thrown, with various experimental glazes (eg. raku)
I am drawn to working with clay for many of the same reasons as for other semi fluid materials - plaster, concrete, wax and bronze. There is the magic of something so open to manipulation that then becomes fixed when fired, capturing the gesture and movement that went into its making. The application of glazes provides an additional unpredictable opportunity for expression. Whilst I find the throwing of pots and bowls on the wheel therapeutic, I am also interested in constructing from thrown and altered elements which have no purpose apart from being themselves, ie objects/sculpture.
It is my intention to start offering ceramic pieces for sale on this website soon.
